Last week,02-09-04, I downloaded 5 suggested upgrades for
Windows XP Home Edition, after they were downloaded and
installed, I restarted my computer, only to find it
always returned only to a black screen with a list of DNI
or something designations and on the bottom of the
screen,'press ctrl-alt.-del to restart computer.The line
above this was something about a boot failure, I think.
Anyway, access to anything else after that download was
only the BIOS, and the afore mentioned. Using the Windows
XP Home Edition Startup disk didn't help any. It was
still on the computer assembler's warranty luckily and
they ended up renewing the only one week at best old
motherboard and harddrive.(ABIT VI7 motherboard,MAXTOR
250MB HD.) Something in one or more of those downloads
corrupted the computer severely and now I am very leary
of getting any Microsoft Updates on their website's
recomended list. This is a new computer, just built last
week! It has a Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.6Ghz., a ABIT
VI7 motherboard 800MB,a 512 MB Corsair memory chip,a
Maxtor 250 GB hard drive, a ATI Radeon 9600se video
card,a Windows XP Home Edition OS, and a Antec Sonata
case w/380Watt Truepower unit. All brand new. Good thing
it was on a warranty. Microsoft? What have you got to say
about that?

I have installed EVERY MS update to date and have never had a problem. What
have you got to say about that?

Can't understand why people always blame Microsoft without even knowing where
the real problem is.

John;
You replaced the motherboard and hard drive?
Then there is your answer.
One or both of them failed.
The updated do not damage hardware.
The problem happened about the same time...That Is All.

If you are going to use that as an excuse not to properly protect your
computer, you have a lot to learn.

Microsoft will probably have nothing to say about it since this is a
peer to peer support and not officially monitored by Microsoft.

I'd like to hear what they have to say, too! That's
QUITE a loss!!! Sorry to hear about it, but good thing
it was on warranty. Copy and paste this whole thing to
Microsoft through another venue, or they won't get it, as
(I understand) this is only for people who want to talk
about problems, and it's not monitored.

What makes you think the cause of it is MS?
