Jim

I looked in the Registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CONTROL/WINDOWS to set the
CSDVersion to (0), but there is no line there for
CSDVersion. I do have CSDReleaseType and it is set to
(0). I installed a new motherboard and did a repair to
Windows XP and now can not do the Updates. Help!!

Hi Jim,

I wanted to make sure you have the right location in the registry (it's
incorrect in your post):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows

Double-check that the CSDVersion entry is not there on the right side. If
it is not, you can try adding it using the steps below.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using
Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

In the above registry location using Regedit, right-click on the right hand
side, and pick New, then 'DWORD Value'. A new entry will appear called
'New Value #1'. Type over that name with 'CSDVersion' (without the quotes)
then press Enter. The new entry should already be set to 0 in the Data
column, shown as '0x00000000 (0)'.

See if that helps. You may want to try shutting down and restarting the
machine after adding that entry.
