Windows XP update

I can't get Windows XP to auto update. It keeps telling
me that system policy prevents access and to contact the
administrator. I am the only user of my stand alone SP1
box. Yes it's a legal copy , Yes i'm logged in as the
administrator. I have tried installing the policy editor
files from MS site but cannot find anything in the group
policy that says turn off auto updates.

My firewall is not set to block them, nor is my AV
software.

Anyone any suggestions? This system is now getting badly
out of date, making the rest of my home network
vulnerable to attacks.
