Windows XP Update...Not Working?

R

RP

When I go into Start/Help & Support and click on Windows
Update/Scan for Updates I get an error message that says:

"Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page"

I tried it a few days ago and let it go thinking
Microsoft was updating their page or something and it was
shut down for maintenance, but I just tried it again a
few minutes ago and got the same error message. Is it me
or the Support page?

HI,

This may occur if Service Pack 1 has been removed from the
computer either through System
Restore or by reinstalling Windows XP into the same
directory. You may see a page that states that the Web
page has an unexpected error or cannot display the page
that was requested.

The value for the CSDVersion in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
needs to be changed to 0. If you are comfortable editing
the registry, follow the instructions below.

1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
2. In the Open box type regedit and click "OK."
3. Browse in the left frame to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
4. In the right frame you will see the key CSDVersion.
Double click this key.
5. Change the value to 0 and click "OK."
6. Restart the computer.

When trying to update my Win XP Home I get as far as Scan
for Updates then I get an error message 0x800A138F. I
tried the self help wizard and from that found that the
Windows Update.log gives the message 'Querying software
update catalogue error 0x800C0002'

If anyone can provide some help on this it would be great.
