Windows XP Update error

When I run the option to check for Windows Updates in
Internet Explorer I receive the following error:

[Error number: 0x80072F78]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page. You may find the following
resources helpful in resolving the problem: (list of
choices.

Any idea what the problem may be?

Sometimes 3rd party software such as accelerators, modem boosters, ad
filters, firewalls, etc, will conflict with Windows Update. If you are using
ZoneAlarm, open privacy settings for ad blocking/cookie control and change
the setting to Default. If that doesn't work, try this in IE Explorer: Go to
Tools, select Internet Options; click on Connections; in the LAN section
click on LAN Settings; in the Automatic Configurations section select
Automatically Detect Settings if not already selected; in the Proxy Server
section uncheck the box labeled Use a Proxy Server for your LAN. Click OK,
then OK again. Close IE, then reopen it and try to access Windows Update in
the new browser window. If neither of these works, disable any 3rd party
accelerator, ad or popup blocker software and try to access Windows Update.
