Help, my wndows xp takes too long to load. It takes around 20 min when
logging in as adminstrator or in our corporate domain. There is no error
messages and i have tried the msconfig un checking plug and play and windows
image.. but to no avail. Help before i reformat the hd again.

Also, can i re activate my winxp again if i reformat my hd?

I had the same problem on my system which is on the old
side. I purchased some RAM memory (pricewatch.com) and the
old piece of !#$@ runs XP just fine now. Give that a try.

i already have 512mb. and i dont think it is the memory. i dont have this
setup before. can mcafee virusscan slow it down?

"can mcafee virusscan slow it down?"
Not by much, if at all. What if you boot into Safe Mode?
Tap F8 when the machine is polling the A: drive during the boot.

i tried it and it worked fine. what i did was unistall mcafee and i notice
another thing. my computer doesn't save the settings when i exit. i
disable stylexp and reboot but when after the long 20mins "applying computer
settings", it is still there. When i try to rearrage the link buttons on
internet explorer, when i reboot it reverts back to the previous one. I
think this has something to do with my settings being saved? there is no
hard disk activity (or very minimal) during the lull. any idea?

Terence

Are you having a problem retaining your settings? Run either line 30 (left
side) or line 54 (right side) at:

Well, I hope you don't have to reformat your hard drive, but you can
reactivate as often as you need to, in any case. What about Repair Install?
And, before going that far, have you tried sfc /scannow? You need the XP CD:

The following assumes you have an actual XP CD as opposed to a restore CD or
restore partition supplied by your PC manufacturer.

Go to Start, type sfc /scannow in the run box and press enter. Note, there
is a space between sfc and the forward slash. You will be asked for your XP
CD. Be aware, upon inserting the CD the XP setup screen may appear, this is
not a part of sfc /scannow, rather it is being invoked by autorun. Simply
minimize the screen and allow sfc to continue.

What does sfc do? i tried renewing my network identification from my server
and it accelerated my login. do i need autoenrollment enabled? i turned it
off.

Terence

SFC looks for discrepancies and repairs them, without really involving you
at all in any decisions, or even in knowing what may have been repaired. I
do not know if it runs any differently on a network machine, as compared to
a stand-alone.

Hi,

See if this helps:

When your computer is connected to a network, booting up Windows XP can take
a long time.

A big part of this time is taking up by updating the group policies.

This tweak lets you log on before this process is finished. Because of this,
booting up is much faster.

Kelly,

tried it but it still is taking so long. first when i use the network
identification wizard it was quick. but as i reboot and login, its taking
so long. now its taking like 5 mins.

Kelly,

I am getting this 2 error messages:

1. Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact the
active directory (0x8007054b). The specified domain either does not exist
or could not be contacted.
Enrollment will not be performed.

2. Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer
network. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

I think this is the problem?

Terence

Kelly,

Would sfc help?
