Windows XP stops at blue windows screen

Windows XP stops at blue welcome screen. Laptop compaq
2.4 ghz 256 ram. Windows POST's then stops at blue
windows screen. Still have mouse controll but cannot do
anything else. Can get into CMOS. Thats it though.

Is there an error message on the blue screen? If so, what is it? If your
system will not even boot Windows (your post is unclear because
"Windows POST's" doesn't mean anything - the Power On Self Test happens
before any operating system is loaded), then you definitely have a
hardware issue. Can you get into Safe Mode or Last Known Good
Configuration? What changed between the time things worked and the time
things didn't? If you would like more help, please repost with the
answers to these questions. Otherwise, you may just want to call the
laptop mftr.'s tech support.
