Windows XP SP2

The automatic update for windows XP SP2 was cancelled
during the install. Through windows update I've tried to
re-install and the report says I do not need any current
updates, however the service pack is not operational. How
do I remove whatever has been installed to allow a
reinstall of SP2

Just reinstall over the top, it will continue where it left off.
You can reinstall using the free SP2 CD over the top without any adverse effects also.
