I recently was the recipient of some pretty nasty malware. The symptoms
include some erroneous software showing up in the add/remove programs as well
as my "Shutdown" button under the start menu disappearing. I am also unable
to access the task manager as the malware changed the permissions such that I
recieve a message indicating the admin has restricted access. Whenever these
types of troubles begin to happen, my recourse has typically been to merely
do a fresh install. I intended to do just that until when I popped in my XP
SP2 disc and rebooted, I discovered that the installation program cannot
detect my hard drives; I'm assuming another symptom of the malware? Any
help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
