windows xp sp2 default settings for pagefile

can someone tell me what the windows xp sp2 version's pagefile is set at by
default? Is it set as "system managed size" or is it set at 'custom'? If at
custom,what is the initial size in MB and max size in MB is defaults at?

so does this mean it will use the correct settings for the pagefile? So would
it detect how much MB of ram u have then multiple it by 1.5 or sumthing?

Yes it assigns an amount based on RAM present, but that 1.5x Ram number is
generally a poor choice. If there is plenty of RAM that number is too high,
and with too little RAM the number is too low. Best is to run that utility
from Bill James that's mentioned in the article to see what the actual page
file usage is, and set the page file based on that. Note setting it too
high won't cause a problem, it's just a waste.

In every XP SP2 home/pro install I've done, it has always defaulted to
custom. Typically, the limits of the pagefile size range are set to
approximately 1.5 and 3 times the amount of RAM in the machine.

All my machines must default to "Custom", as that's where they are set and
I've never changed the setting. On mine, the initial and max sizes are one
and two times the amount of installed ram.
