Windows XP shut Down Problem

Hello
When attempting to shut down Windows XP it often hangs.
It may shuit down from time to time, and at other times
it hangs, or all the icons disappear, but the background
screen stays up.
I have heard that Roxio Easy CD 5 may be a problem with
XP, but we have Version 6. Is it a problem too. If so, or
if not, what work arounds or solutions can one try to
rememdy the problem. Thanks in advance for all valid help
