Windows XP Setup Hangs on "Setting startup configuration"

ishbuu

I've been trying to install windows XP but once i get to the "setting
startup configuration" stage at the last part of the boot from cd
portion of the install, it just stops there and hangs. I've left it on
for extended periods of time (overnight) and there was no HD activity
and the cd drive just spins down to a stop once it reaches that spot.
I've tried with both an original XP cd and a slipstreamed version. I'm
using Pro SP2. Any ideas?

Hardware:
Athlon X2 3800
1gb DDR400 Ram
1x RAID 5 array, 3 partitions (installing windows on the 20gb one)
1x 7900gt

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1st,if a program or utility or service doesnt make any headway after 15
minutes or so,quit, running anything w/o activity as you did only damages
other resources...As far as booting to xp cd,make sure the xp cd is clean,
you can apply isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to a clean rag and wipe,
actually its the same ingredient found in all cd/dvd cleaners.Make sure youre
hd jumper pins are set right, set the BIOS to cd as 1st boot device.
