Windows XP Serial Numbers

Mark

When I purchased my PC, no Windows XP manual or CDs were
included.

I'm having problems with my computer and would like to
attempt to completely reinstall Windows. However, I
don't have any CDs to do this.

I have proof of purchase of my PC. However, I'm not sure
how I can get the serial numbers for my copy of XP when
I'm having problems with task bar (see previous message)
and can't even access My Computer or My Control Panel.

Is there any way I can find out the serial numbers from
the Windows desktop?

If I contact Microsoft with the serial numbers, will they
even provide me with a set of installation CDs?

Any info you have on the subject would be appreciated!

It is the responsibility of the computer manufacturer to give you a way to
return the system to the way it was when you took delivery of the computer.
Microsoft can not/will not help you in this. Call the manufacturer!

To find your key serial, download and run Keyfinder from this site

OR go back to the shop/cowboy who sold you the computer and ask for your
sticky label with serial number that should be attached to your computer.

Two things.
If you bought a brand name computer the Product Key should be on a sticker
located someplace on the box.
HP as well as some other manufacturers provide the OEM software VIA a hidden
partition on the HD, read your manual as to how you access it.
If you can't locate the sticker with the Product Key on it try one of these
links to retreive the key off your computer:
Key Finder: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
or
Aida32: http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

The manufacturer (if it is the partition type OEM) will send you a CD for
around 10 bucks.
HP I know includes a utility that allows you to make your OEM CD from the
partition if you have a CD burner installed. Otherwise contact the
manufacturer as they are required to provide the software to you.

Microsoft does not provide replacement media for OEM or
pre-installed software. You would need to contact your
computer manufacturer (OEM) for the replacement disks. Not
really sure what you mean by serial numbers for XP. A
product key is what you will need to reinstall but with
out a disk, a product key is of no use...

If you can't access Control Panel or open your start bar,
then you're out of luck. You can try going into "Safe
Mode" and you might be able to access "Help and Support"
from Control Panel. This is where you need to go to
obtain the PID (Product Identification) for your
operating system so Micro$oft can help you.

The PID is not the Product Key which is needed to get a CD replaced. Your
supplier should have put the yellow sticker with the PK(25 digits in 5 sets of
5 separated by a -) somewhere on the PC, usually the bottom. If it's not there
you may be able to recover it by running KeyFinder from Safe Mode, it's free
from www.magicaljellybean.com . The first thing you should do is contact the
store(hopefully) where you purchased it and ask them to provide you with an XP
CD and the Product Key used to install it.
