Windows XP, Screensaver Shortcut

T

Thomas John Brown

Does any one know if there are shortcut keys to turn on
your screen saver? Without waiting for it to automatically
start, based upon your display settings.

Example: I have my password protected screensaver set for
30 minutes; but I need to walk away from my computer in 10
minutes. I want to turn my screensaver on to protect my
PC while I'm gone. Are there shortcut keys for turning on
the screensaver?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP AND TIME.

Thomas,

Locate the screen saver you want in c:\windows\system32 (.scr extension) or
run a wild search, i.e. "*.scr" without quotes.
Right-click and create a shortcut on the Desktop.
Right-click shortcut and select Properties.
In Shortcut key field, enter your choice by pressing a letter on keyboard.
CTRL+ALT are added automatically to your choice.
You can delete the shortcut from your desktop.

A better option is to simply "lock" the PC if you need to leave in a hurry.
Press WinKey+L.

This would not work to protect the PC. The shortcut simply starts the
screensaver but it does not kick in the password protection that he needs.
