having a bizare problem when installing some programs from cd onto sata
drives. someone else i know had this problem too.

most of the time the sata disk is fine and works normally (raptor 36GB,
on a gigabyte nForce4-SLI mobo). has been scanned etc and no problems
there. but every now and then on some installations from cd the pc will
stop responding, like explorer seems to freeze. is this likely to be
just a windows glitch...?

one thing to note is that to get this disk visible in winXP it had to be
set up with nvidia's raid software.... (Sil3114 raid) hopefully that's
not causing any probs...?

If you have a single SATA drive, 'the NVIDIA RAID allows multi-disk designs
to be set up as RAID 0,1,0+1 based on users’ priority of protection/
performance. This NVIDIA RAID function makes the RAID even more accessible by
introducing the innovative windows-based facility'.

Despite perhaps using this facility, it may be that you have installed an
incorrect driver; you should choose the correct RAID level for this single
disk.

Try opening device mgr.,scroll to the cdrom or cdrw, expand the tree,R.click,
select,uninstall the device,then close-out,shut off computer,try moving to
another spot on one of the IDE cables, set jumpers if needed, start computer.
The SATA/RAID drivers only get used if you have a RAID configuration present,
otherwise windows uses the windows drivers.
