Hi there,
I have recently been asked by a neighbour to have a look at thier
laptop.
It was virus ridden and had 53 infected files!
I have managed to get rid of the files by using a utility called
stinger.exe which I got from work.
I am now having problems with running the updates for the computer. I
am against going to get them from the internet as the computer is very
vulnerable but I know that it needs 45 critical updates including the
service pack.
So I have on disk
XPSP1
XPSP1a
MS03-039
MS04-011
833330
823980
None of these will install. They get so far before dropping out or
bombing out. Sometimes they will only go as far as extracting the
files, others they'll get as far as inspecting the system.
I have also tried to look at the registry to see what's happening, but
that also bombs or drops out.
I have also ran sfc /scannow to see what happens but that doesn't fix
the problem either.
Windows XP 5.1.2600 Home Edition.
I'd really appreciate a little pointer in the right direction with
this one.
Could it be something to do with run32.dll???? or another executable
program???
Thanks
Dave
