Windows XP Process overusing CPU

It happened on my old computer before so I thought it was
something with the hardware so I got a new one. Now on
the new one, I was running for 1 week without rebooting.
I rebooted, and after about 3 hours, one of the processes
on the computer did the same thing that it did on my old
computer. It's the System process. It hoggs my CPU when
loading internet pages, and, certain applications. For
example, when loading www.happyhardcore.com my CPU usage
goes up to 100% while before I rebooted my computer this
morning it barely hit 20%. As well when I load
Dreamweaver, it must take atleast 10 minutes to get past
the load screen. I do not know what it is but I'm
thinking it's a bad installation copy of Windows I've
got. I need help please! Screenshots are available upon
request.

P.S.
Windows is up to date!

I only have a Duron 1.3, but when I install an Anti-virus..particularly NAV,
it hogs up my CPU and my hard drive is always reading, and the system runs
sluggishly...Windows XP Pro

Same problem here. Its not NAV though. I've used NAV ever
since I got the computer I'm on and never had any problem.
You just have to turn off some of its features so that it
doesn't scan stuff auto. It doesn't take all resources either.
Now, something's causing System Idle Process to take up
all resource for not apparent reason and it just won't stop. I
found it has something to do with network (LAN in our
house) since unplugging a network cable fixes the problem
(but no internet after doing that...). So, I came to think it
may be something internet/network or remote access
related. I still can't figure out exactly what though.
Btw, uninstalling NAV looks like it helps at a first glance but
everyhting gets back in a few minutes, so don't bother with
NAV, its not the problem abd besides, w/t an AV your
computer won't be considered good and safe anyway.

Yes, I also have to agree with other folks who have the same
problem, since this whole thing began very recently with no
apparent reason. I didn't even get any updates for windows,
this just started happening. And guys, don't blame it on your
cpu speed, if its anywhere greater than 200-300 mhz there's
not excuse for an os to hog it all down anyway, so lets just
patiently look for a cure to this problem.

Errr... System Idle process is just that, it's an indicator telling you how
much CPU time is currently UNUSED so there's no way this can be slowing down
your PC! It's more likely something you've recently installed causing the
problem, possibly even an update from MS or a virus...
