I just bought a computer with Windows XP Home edition installed on it.
I've been installing other programs onto my computer and have come
across a few problems with Windows. One of them is that I cannot run
the file search feature that allows me to locate files on my computer.
Also, I cannot run system restore. Windows Media Player is also
giving me a message saying "An internal application error has
occurred". I'm not sure what caused these problems to happen. Can
anybody make any suggestions on how to solve these problems? THANKS!

Jim

Were these problems occurring before you started installing these programs?
If so, then it could be a possibility of a bad image on the drive of your
windows xp.
If not, then it could be a incompatibility with the program you are trying
to install and xp.

Jim, if you believe that there is a point in time when some piece of new
software caused these problems, try a System Restore. It will "roll back"
your software configuration to a date you select. Settings and data do not
change. Updates and other software added after this Restore Point date will
have to be reinstalled, preferably one at a time, in order to determine the
trouble-maker.

To run System Restore, look it up in Help and Support, and follow the
Wizard.

Be warned that MS Updates can cause various compatibility problems. While
you need all the critical/security updates, be sure you actually require any
of the other updates before you install them.
