Windows XP Pro SP2 Rebooting by Itself Randomly Only After 10PM. Please Help! (Don't want to clean r

Folks, I've been pulling my hair out with this problem of mine and am
finally turning to you to see you can help me out.

I've had my new computer just a little over a month now which has
Windows XP Pro updated with SP2 and also with the latest Windows
security updates and up until 3 days ago, it was working just fine.
But since then, it would reboot itself without any warning at all, no
BSOD or no error messages and it would just reboot but only would do
so only after about 10PM or so.

That is why I'm able to write and post this message in this forum now.
Lastnight when I tried to write this, it would reboot again and again,
not even giving me enough time to post a message like this.

I've ran Norton and McAfee AV on my computer and it didn't show
anything unusual. I'm behind a Linksys WRT54G router and I just have
Windows Firewall running on my computer.

The funny thing is, since I work from home, I use the computer quite a
bit during the day as well and the I don't experience the reboot
problem during the day whatsoever.

Only after about 10PM is when my computer would reboot by itself and
would continue to do so, whether I have any apps open or not, whether
I'm actually logged into my account or whether I just let it sit with
the account login window, or even whether the computer's online or
whether I completely pull out the ethernet cable from it.

What I have noticed is that, when it reboots, it'll often have a
problem fully going through the POST process and many times it'll hang
before getting Windows to boot. So, I'll end up using the reset
button on my computer. And sometimes, it'll even hang on the Windows
boot screen where it shows the blue progress bar going from left to
right and I'll again using the reset button.

I'm at my wits end right now and was wondering if someone can suggest
or recommend a few things for me to look into or try to resolve this
problem? I really don't want to do a clean reinstall if I can help
it. I'll give anything a try at this point. TIA.

Nope, sorry, I was dead wrong about my computer rebooting by itself
only after 10PM. It did it just now and it is about 2:40PM for me.
I'm barely writing this message before it reboots again. It already
did it twice on me now. Please help!!!!!!

I'll check for replies from my old computer. Thanks!!

I was going to suggest that this could be the result of a low voltage
problem. Something running late in the evening (electric heat?) is
putting a heavy load on the household wiring, enough to lower the
voltage to a point where the computer reboots itself but perhaps not
so much that a visible "brownout" or other symptoms appear. Sometimes
a computer will be abnormally sensitive to power line voltage and will
reboot itself even when other devices do not react to the voltage
drop.

Also, have you turned off the "restart on failure" setting? Look in
Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and Recovery Settings.

Good luck

Right click My Computer and select Properties then click on Advanced Tab.

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot whenever that
happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get the
blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details for
more help.

Hi Rip RocK,

What devices are installed on your computer? You have a Linksys Router,
but how are you connected to the Internet, Wired or Wireless? What Adapter
Card is installed? What Keyboard Brand and Model Number are you using?
