Windows XP pro has problem recognizing some DVDs

Has anyone come up with this problem where 1 or 2 of your DVDs is not
recognized by your DVD player, but the rest of your DVDs are fine? Is there
a fix for this? I've read a few month back that M$ has a patch for this
problem, but it will be in SP2.

Hi,

I found a couple of articles that could possibly describe what you are
seeing. The second article I included is a longshot as it is specific to
DVD-RW media (but there is a downloadable update for it):

309321 Windows Media Player May Not Recognize or Play DVD
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=309321

818733 Windows XP Does Not Recognize a DVD-RW Disc

This may not be of any use but I am experiencing a similar problem. In my case in 10 Cover DVDs only 3 work in my DVD player. This is not a DVD Player or codec Issue, as i have seen other threads describing, as it is data DVDs only that i get the problem with - i can happily play DVDs using PowerDVD. Out of interest (as i have been trying several ideas so far) i have tried the "make the DVD the master device on IDE - no good). I also investigated Michaels ideas but unfortunately these also drew a blank. My DVD is a Hitachi model GD-7500 and i thought th Udfs idea that Michael suggested might be the answer - trouble is any downloads i found related to the article refused to install as they were for a PRE SP1 or SP1a system. I can only assume i have the correct Udfs.sys file - trouble is my Udfs.sys file states it is v 5.1.2600.1106, one of the articles states after download it should be 5.1.2600.1222 or later and is related to SP1. So if i have SP1 why is my Udfs.sys an older version ? I currently have all the latest XP PRO updates from Windows Update, some of which have (SP2) in them i.e. (SP2) Q332011 - so i hope my system is up to date
