Windows XP Pro Explorer failures

Hi,

I recentyl installed Windows XP PRO and the problem I am facing is what
follows. Every time I open a folder (only folders, does not happen with
documents, pictures, programs) and close it explorer.exe restarts. Everything
disappears including toolbar. This last for approx. 3 seconds and everything
comes back.

No idea how to deal with this. This is a fresh system installation.

All ideas welcome.

Explorer.exe is crashing for some reason. If this truly is a clean install
with no added software and no malware, then it could be a horked install, so
redo it.

Hi Rock,

It is a fresh install, though this is not the only thing on the system right
now. Of course I have other software on it since I work on this computer :-/

Reinstallation - this is probably the best solution, though the last thing I
would like to do now. This is why I am looking for some other options first.

Anyway, thank you for you thoughts, and you did encourage me to reinstall
the system, though it will take a whole day wiht all the back ups and
everything.

If I won't find any other option till saturday afternoon, I will probably
reinstall the system, hoping this will solve the issue.

Thanks again,

Artie

might try a REPAIR install instead of a FULL install.

Something you installed caused the problem, either software installs, driver
updates or windows updates. Only you can track that down according to when
the problem surfaced. Did you image the system just after the OS was
installed before adding any software. That's always a good idea, and then
periodically image it when it's running well. Then if something messes it
up you don't have to go back to square one.
