windows xp pro EFS

I have a EFS protected folder on my desktop PC.
I have set up via the netwok wizard a workgroup and connected my laptop via
nics and appropriate cable.
I have been trying to gain access to those EFS and the only so far possible
is by a remote desktop connection and then copying and pasting on to my
laptop pc which then allows me to view and edit the file........my question
is .......is there another way in which this can be done without using a
remote desktop connection.........
