Windows xp pro dual boot genuine validation problem

I have Windows Xp por installed on two partitions, I only use one as primary
os. I now realize I cannot have the same os on different partitions, it
won't pass the Genuine validation now. In the past it has passed with no
problems. It is OEM version and the seller of the computer is no longer in
business. Is there some way fix delete one version and correct the problem?

I have two copies of the same XP disk/key, one installed in each partition,
and mine passes validation every time I have to download the next hundred
megabytes of screwup fixes and bug patches.

I don't have the OEM version, maybe that would make a difference, but I
can't think it would.

So I'm just guessing that there is something other than having two
installed copies that is the problem.

Maybe ring up Microsoft, tell them it used to validate, it is the same
installation, and now it won't. Maybe they can figure it out.
