Windows XP Performance

I'm running a Pc with 2.40 GHZ Processor and 512 MB Ram.
My processor usage is constatnly running at 90 - 100%.
Programs take long to start up and they constantly stop
responding. I also get a lot of hacfker attacks and
netbios browsing messages. What can i do to improve
performance of this computer?

Pistol Pete, I don't see remark about Processes from

your Task Manager where is the CPU being used and once
again no mention of cleaning House so try these....
