One version of WinXP Pro Upgrade has a Part Number of E85-
00087, but another version of XP Pro has a Part number of
269-04589. What is the latter, Full or Upgrade?? Is there
a source at Microsoft for part numbers for WinXP????
Thanks.

Just to confuse you, my copy of XP pro upgrade (sans SP1) has a part # of X08-46837 and on the CD it's X08-5471. I think they do it with *computers*. :-)

It is a code that identifies the batch and the contractor that presses the
discs, along with other info. It will vary among discs, and should be of no
real concern to the end-user. The packaging will identify whether it is
Full or Upgrade, Oem, etc.

The properties screen on the computer will also show if it is OEM.

So does mine also on the box, but on the Certificate of
Authenticity (label on the box) it has E85-00087 just
under the bar code on the top -- not the bar code at the
bottom. Thanks.
