windows XP not response

When some program run long operation the windows XP not response where
switch window to another aplication and back to aplication with long
operation. Even if aplication sometimes do something, window is still
not response. Same aplication in windows 2000 work correctly.

Something to set ?

This can happen sometimes. If you leave them, do they come back to a
responding state?

Check in the Task Manager to see their CPU level and whether they are
up to anything?
