Windows XP networking

I am having difficulty setting up a Windows XP network at
work. I have set up a server to which I have connected 6
workstations. I now need to attach two more workstations
but the server will not allow any more connections. Can
anyone tell me if this is a configuration problem or do
need to switch to a different opperating system

Hi, Garth -

XP Home will only allow five simultaneous incoming
connections - XP Professional will allow ten. Sounds
like an upgrade would work pretty well.

Hope this helps -

Hi Garth, do some research before buying the XP pro
upgrade. I've found that Windows XP Pro only allows 10
incoming connections...not 10 computers. I've found that
if 1 user has 10 file locks on the server, then no one
else can connect to that computer at all. I'm still
trying to work out any configuration possiblities that
will allow us to have 10 computers connected at the saem
time regardless of file locks.
