I have a laptop with Windows XP professional and a desktop with Windows XP
SP2 Set up a network but the computers can not find each other.

the laptop recognizes the workgroup and shows the desktop as the other
computer but does not open any folders on the desktop.

The desktop however can not even access the workgroup.
Both give error message that access not granted

Start by looking for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and at registry
setting restrictanonymous.

If no help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so
we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

Thank you very much Chuck. I had looked at the registry before hand and it
was configured properly and had disabled my Norton Firewall. I had
forgotten about the Windows Firewall. As soon as i disabled that, I was able
to see all of the computers. You are a god send. This had been drivig me
nuts for a couple days now. Thanks again

Kewl. Thanks for the update, and the feedback.

Now re enable a firewall, and configure it properly. Layer your protection,
please.
