I am currently running windows XP on the host computer in my home network.
On the other machine I am working with Windows 2000. I can see the host
computer on the 2000 machine but cannot see the 2000 machine on the xp
machine to map network drives. I have gone through all the possible problems
and settings for each computer with no luck. Any and all help would be
appreciated.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

HI
If you are able to ping the XP machine from the Win 2000 then it seems to be
a problem with your XP personal fire wall settings. check those settings and
if possible try turning of the XP fire wall and then ping the XP. Also what
kind of network cable u r using.
