Windows XP Networking Issues. Unable to connect to C Share (C$)

I've had networking complications in the past, but for the past 10 months or
so everything had worked great. I could access any computer on my network by
typing \\x.x.x.x\c$ OR \\compname\c$, even if I was accessing a computer
which didn't have the same account setup on it (like my work machine). The
way it would do this is it would bring up a window and ask for my work
username and password. After providing this, it would allow me to view the
contents of that computer. If I was accessing another one of my own computers
(with the same account setup), the authentication wasn't necessary.

I recently reimaged my computer, and now all the network complications are
back. I can't connect to C$ anymore. When I type \\x.x.x.x I can see all the
printers and the shared docs folder, but adding the \c$ suffix gives the
Network path was not Found. C is being shared.

I have Client for Microsoft Networks enabled as well as File and Printer
sharing on all my computers.

I've tried running the the network setup wizard on both machines and have
disabled the firewall on both machines.

I have a router, and no changes have been made to its configuration. I also
tried installing the Link Layer Topology XP Networking Fix, but it was to no
avail. Like I said, it is all related to my reimageing my machine. There was
some setting I must have changed about 10 months ago that solved all my
problems. Or maybe I installed some other microsoft update or something.

When I access \\x.x.x.x from the newly reimaged computer, I see the
shareddocs folder and printers, but when I do the inverse (try to view the
newly reimaged box from another computer), I don't see any printers or a
shareddocs folder. The folder does exist though, and so do some printers.

I already have disabled simple file sharing. Beyond this, is there some
further configuration? My personal computers have the same workgroup, but my
work laptop is part of a domain. I was still able to network into my work
laptop, I just needed to provide my credentials (which I can't seem to get a
prompt for anymore).

My install of XP Pro is pre-service pack, but I have installed SP2. I
wouldn't be surprised if the networking in XP Pro w/out SP1/2/3 is not
configured out of the box correctly. It took me a while before to get it
working, and now I'm back at sq one.

BTW. I have a box with XP Home, and I can't turn simple file sharing off on
this box since it's Home edition. But things still worked great before. This
computer has not changed, just my primary one.

How can I get things back to how they were? Thanks for the help!

Yes. It coincides with what is shared when I R click a drive and view the
sharing tab:

Share name Resource Remark
-----------------------------------------------------------
IPC$ Remote IPC
D$ D:\ Default share
C$ C:\ Default share
ADMIN$ C:\WINDOWS Remote Admin
E$ E:\ Default share
SharedDocs C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\DOCUMENTS
