Windows XP My Documents Corrupted

Hello, I have a PC where the My Documents when you browse to it is
empty. However, on my desktop I had in the past created shortcuts to
folders in My Documents and the files are present. I went to the
Command Line and here is what it does when I run a DIR command in the
My Documents Folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Howard\My Documents>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 6CCD-F128

Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\Howard\My Documents

10/09/2006 05:20 PM <DIR> .
File Not Found

C:\Documents and Settings\Howard\My Documents>

If I do a DIR and search for a specific file it will find the file in
My Documents. There is something corrupted to where I cannot browse
the folder in Windows or from the Command-Line; however, the folders
and files are there when I have something pointing directly to them. I
really need help if someone has seen this folder corruption before.
Thanks,

Chad

Did you change to a different computer? If so then your documents are still
on the other computer.

No, it is not a new setup or a new PC. The PC has not been changed
recently. We do have several user accounts in the office that point to
the same My Documents folder. But for it to all of a sudden happen is
very strange. I would appreciate any help. Again, I can see the files
when I have a shortcut pointing to the specific folder or file in the
My Documents Folder. However, when I use Windows Explorer or even the
Search tool in Windows XP it finds nothing. The Folder looks empty,
but I know the files are still there because of the shortcuts that have
already been there working.

Also, I can open PhotoShop Elements and it defaults to the My Pictures
folder in the My Documents. It pulls up the pictures, but when I go up
a folder to see My Documents it goes blank again.

I would appreciate any help,

Chad

This is really a little thing but you should also have a <DIR> ..
listing (cd . goes back one dir, .. goes to root.)

Maybe you just left it out, mayhaps your CMD is mess'd up, or you have
a HD issue.

I am afraid that it is a Hard Drive issue. I am going to the office
today and run a scan. Have been trying to troubleshoot while connected
remotely to the PC, but it is going to take me sitting down in front of
it. I am hoping that a regular ScanDisk will be able to fix the folder
corruption... I will repost to let everyone know how it goes. And if
you think of anything please let me know. Thanks,

Chad
