Windows XP modifies accounts if diskette is missing

I have recently noted that Windows XP changes the user accounts when a
diskette is not inserted into the drive. When it is not inserted, the
desktop of all acounts are void of any icons or folders, and the
acccoutns do not ask for password for login. Office programs appear
not inslalled, too. When I boot with a diskette in the a: drive,
everything returns to normal.
What is happening? Is that a trojan or virus in my PC+

Simon,

What's on the floppy? This sounds fascinating. Can you get a look at
the files? If there's a *.exe file, Properties - Version should tell
us something. Maybe some corporate authentication tool?

If it's malware, you should immediately get and run Spybot S&D and
HijackThis (both free). Get expert advice from SWI Forums (the folks
there might be interested in this too if it is malware). Start here
