Windows XP Loop

Hi,

I was wondering if anyboy could help me with the following problem:

I started off trying to get rid of a file called Perflib_Perf something
which was detected by Norton's One Click but it was unable to remove it from
the Windows/Temp file.

I then ran several spyware removal programs such as Windows Defender, Spybot
search & destroy and adaware with no luck of detecting it as a threat.

I then attempted to go into Safe mode and try run scans there to maybe
remove it like that but still no luck however at this moment matters got alot
worse.

On reboot the windows would load up but then soon as the desktop shows it
automatically goes back to the initial reboot stage. This appears in a
continuous loop without me pressing anything.

I then decided to put in the windows xp cd and tried to boot the pc using
the CD. Booting from CD at the recovery console stage I get the message
saying that No hard disk was detected please ensure it is connected and
switched on.

I am at a situation now where on selected either of the safe modes results
in looped reboots 2 seconds into the windows logo appearing now.

Any guidance on this will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

The perf file is normal, it's the default performance file for the system.
Since the system is using it, it cannot be deleted.

You might repair from the console by running the command :
CHKDSK /F

Hi,

I tried that once before, I can no longer run those commands in the recovery
console as it doesnt seem to detect a hard disk.

You probably need to press F6 very early on when the setup starts to
load and supply SATA/RAID drivers on a floppy diskette. Pay close
attention when you boot with the Windows cd, you will see a prompt at
the bottom of the screen telling you to press F6 to install the drivers.

Hi,

I can no longer access the recovery console as I have no floppy drive the
CD-ROM is not being detected when I choose to boot from CD-ROM in the BIOS
settings. Here is some information that might help:
GigaRAID BIOS V.171
IDE Channel 2 Master [Maxtor 6V300F0]
I have the option to go into the BIOS set-up by pressing del, xpress
recovery by press f9 but this then brings up No HPA enabled drive, Press any
key to Boot.
I have this RAID utility configuration option by pressing ctrl+g to enter
the setup utiliy.

I can now access the recovery console, I have the following message now:

Setup was unable to load support for the mass storage device you specified.
Currently, setup will load support for the following mass storage devices(s):
<none>
*To specift additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk
controllers for use with Windows, including those for which you have a device
support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer, Press S.

On pressing S is says it couldn't detect any floppy disks, this is obvious
because I dont have a floppy disk drive. How do I get it to look in the
CD-ROM?

The drivers *must* be supplied on a floppy diskette, the setup program
will not accept them from any other media source. If your motherboard
has an FDD controller you can temporarily fit a diskette drive to the
computer. You can buy a diskette drive for about $10 or you can
scrounge/borrow one from another computer.

Limited OEM driver support is available with F6 during Windows XP and

You may be able to use a USB floppy drive but only a handful of drives
are supported for F6 driver installation:

A connected USB floppy disk drive does not work when you press F6 to
install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process

Another alternative is to incorporate (slipstream) the drivers into the
installation cd.
