Windows xp locks up when intializing devices

Upgrading from Windows98 to XP, Everything in the
installation process seems normal and fine until I get to
intialiazing devices with about 34 minutes left to go and
the computer locks up. I have disconected all devices
except for the video card and cd rom. Still the system
locks up.

I'm having a similar problem upgrading from win2000 to xp
pro. I get to 34 minutes left, then it re-starts, goes to
34 minutes left again, then re-starts... Some kind of
loop. I can't figure it out and I don't see any useful
advice in the knowledge base.

Shift + F10 during the installation and look at the setuperr.log and
upgrade.txt files to see if they are showing errors. Also try pulling
unneeded hardware from the machines to see if there is maybe a device
detection issue.

I'm also having the identical problem that Dave has
encountered but I'm experienceing it when attempting to
reload XP.
