A couple of months ago, my family bought a new computer
and now for some unkown reason it is running slower than
it ever has. I'm pretty good with computers so I tried
deleting all spyware and defragmenting the hard drive. But
nothing has worked. I suspect it has something to do with
the anti-virus I installed, however I have no intention of
removing that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S I have tried other things but i have not mentioned
them.

Hi John-Paul

Why do you suspect hte AV programs?
What happens if you remove it?

Start by verifying if the AV prog is actually doing it.
disconnect from the Internet, remove the AV prog from starting, reboot
and verify speed. If it is, look for another AV prog - but first read
on.

visit this site http://blackviper.com/WinXP/registry.htm

there is a LOT of info here.
Look for the reg patches that apply to your version of XP

If that helps, reinstall the AV prog and check again.

A lot of trial and error, I am afraid.

Have fun.
