Closing or moving a page such as this www.microsoft.com is suddenly done in
stages. What do I mean? It's as if the page is divided into four equal
sections. Begining with the upper one, the other follow one after the other.

When moving a page, or making it smaller, a large number of copies appear
and move with the original.

I appreciate any you may have to return Windows to its normalcy.

Update your video driver.

Is the browser set for "tile" view ?

Hallo Mark, how do I up-date the video driver?

Go to the website of the maker of your computer and download the video
driver for your model computer.

If you are using an added video adapter that was not sold with the machine,
go to the website of the maker of the video adapter and download the latest
video driver there.

Most video drivers come as a self installer package, double click the
downloaded file and the install routine begins. Follow the prompts. Reboot
the machine when the install is finished. Reset the video resolution to match
the native resolution of your monitor.

Having read the responses, I realize the last word in the subject line
wasn't spelled that way intentionally. But I have to say that various
programs have behaved in a rectal manner in my long experience
of problems with software. I should end this with a colon:

Hi Jim,
I use Internet Explorer 8 and that made me look at Mozilla Firefox, Outlook
and Outlook Express all of them act as I described it.
I looked for an explanation of a "tile view in the help files. No joy. Can
you explain how I find the answer to your question?

Hallo Mark,
I am not sure what to look for to find a up-date video driver.
I know it comes from NIDDIA and under Controllers it reads:
NVIDIA nForced4 AMD Controller (2x)
NIVIDIA nForce 4 Parallel ATA Controller
I also show a Hauppauge WinTV 878/9 WDM Video Driver

I checked for drives at the NVIDIA homepage there is no "nForce 4"
mentioned.

Hallo Anthony, thank you for correcting a typing error. Why should you end
what with a colon?
Nurmi

"anusual" seemed to my twisted mind to suggest that Windows
was acting like an anus. Since the anus terminates the large
colon, it seemed appropriate to end my attempt at humor with
the colon character. I note your email address, in Germany.
What you have run into here is the kind of humor with which people
with a long native experience with English, or, I suppose, any
other language, baffle people from other countries.

Can you provide information about the make and model of computer
you have ? Do you have a web link to the product page, to save
us some search time ?

If this computer was built from parts (a home brew system),
what video card did you put in it ?

If you run Belarc Advisot, and look under the "Display" item,
it may show what video card is being used.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

You may also be able to get the information from Device Manager.
One way to get there, is go to the Start menu, select Run,
and enter devmgmt.msc as the program to run. Run that program,
then look under "Display Adapters", for the name of the video card.

If you're still not sure, another program to try, is Everest.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Install it, run it, then look under Display:GPU for a name.
Or perhaps Devices:PCI_Devices has a name for you.

If you can figure out what is giving you video, post
back with the name of the device. For example, mine is
"ATI Radeon 9800 Pro". Another card I own is "NVidia FX5200".
Those are some examples.

Someone can help you pick a driver, when more is known about
your hardware. In the case of a Dell/HP/Gateway/Acer computer,
you can find drivers on their web site. But it is also possible
to go to ATI or Nvidia, and get perfectly good drivers there.
So there is more than one way to find a driver.

Anthony - You seem to be love with your Rethorik. Why do you waste time
inserting your inane humor here? How many languages do you speak?

Did you ever get the updated video driver?

Hallo Mark,
I checked the4 NVIDIA up-date for drivers for my RADEON X550 (Display
Adapter) and for the Secondary (Display Adapter) NVIDIA informed my that on
checking my PC that all drivers are up-to-date.
Can you tell me where I have to look to see if my progr is set for "tile
view"?
Thank you!

EADEON X550 is an ATI product, not Nvidia. Running
the Nvidia driver checkup is not likely to give you a
driver.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

The X550 is in the list here. This is the last driver.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...px?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.20&lang=English

This is a picture of the ATI Radeon X550. If you were to take the
side off the computer and look, you should see a card like this
in an expansion slot.

In terms of settings to check, there is a "Hardware
Acceleration" slider in the Display control panel
advanced section, under "Troubleshoot". You want this
set to "full", so that every operation is accelerated.

If you go to Start:Run and enter dxdiag as the program name,
and run it, Dxdiag has a Display tab. When you click that,
there are three DirectX features (at least there are for my
AGP video card). Since mine are all working, the window shows
three buttons labeled "Disable", which means they must current
be enabled. If you see "Enable" buttons, it means something
must be disabled.

You can see in this example, a horribly broken video setup.
This is what dxdiag looks like. The driver situation must be a mess
for this to happen.

Thanks Paul,
A check with ATI Radeon X550 shows my drivers are up-to-date.
A Dxdiag shows all three buttons as enabled.
I used a progr called "Drive Checker" It found obsolete drivers for the ATI
X550, Sound Recorder, and Microsoft. To download I first need to purchase
the progr. Idid not, for I don't trust these offers and cannot afford it
anyway.
This seems to be an exercise of futility. I will have to live with it.
Thanks for your extensive patience and help.
Nurmi.
