Windows XP Installation Headache

I have tried to install Windows XP on a clean hard drive after upgrading my,
memory, processor and motherboard.

However after I select the partition I wish to install Windows XP on I get
the error message...

Setup cannot update partition information on:
19456Mb Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]

I cannot understand what is wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I
should run fdisk /mbr as the hard drive is from a previous motherboard,
processor and motherboard configuration.

All I do for a clean install is first of all delete the previous partition,
make a new partition then format the new partition (can all be done using xp
disc i believe) good luck

No this wont work. As I said above. When I try to select an NTFS partition is
fails with the error message shown. FAT32 works but then cannot convert to
NTFS after installation.

I think a new hard drive may be in order.
