windows XP hotfix and security update

In my add and remove programs I have a number of security update for windows
XP and a number of windows XP Hotfix. What are these and can I remove them
from my remove and add programs from my control panel.

They are important updates to your Windows system and should not be removed.

If you don't want to see updates in Add/Remove programs, just uncheck the
View Updates box.
