My desktop recently crashed and no longer allows me to actually start it up
using the operating system (Windows XP Home). When i start up the computer it
says disk read error insert system disk. I have had the computer for over a
year and no longer have the disks that came with the computer, and to top it
all off the company i purchassed the computer from have no way to assist me
due to their current situation, massive long story. My question is this:
If i was to buy a copy of windows XP either home or pro would i b able to
install it on the computer as a starting point?
Obviously i know i would not have the softeware that was installed when i
bought the computer however i found that it was not required anyway and i
quickly uninstalled it. I know i will also have to install the drivers and
software for all the devices i had connected (wireless network etc etc)
So is it possible. Thanks for your help.

Buy your copy - use it to perform a repair install with the product key it
comes with.

Maybe before you buy anything, determin the make of hard disk installed,
visit the manu website and download/create their floppy disk checking
utility.
