I've been having this problem for some time now and I must say, I'm feeling mildy suicidal, it is trés annoying
Any time I am on a website and I click on a link that opens a page with windows media player on it, all internet explorer windows close immediately, no warnings, no sounds, no nothing. I have tried system restore, Ad aware, spy bot, Norton Antivirus, everything under the sun to no avail. Do any of you guys have any ideas as to how I could resolve this

Many thank in advance (even for any suggestions because I am completely stuck)

Nope Andrew, didnt work. Thanks for your suggestion anyway, it looked like it was about to work, but oh well. I'll have to keep asking.

Reinstall Media Player.

Reinstall IE and Media Player.

Should be working now.

You make it seem so easy, but it isn't. Both WMP9 and IE6 are embedded
in WinXP Home (and WinXP Pro). Uninstalling either of them requires some
advanced techniques. Reinstalling either one requires lengthy downloads.

Here are a couple of links that may help.

Reinstall IE 6 only:

Repair IE 6 (from Doug Knox):
