Hi

Could I run XP home on an Intel Core Duo or do you have to run XP Pro to
take advantage of the two cores?

Hi

You need to run XP Pro.

Hi

You need to run XP Pro.
What a waste of perfectly good hardware!

You can run XP Home on one socket motherboards. The "dual core" counts
as one CPU. If you want to run "Dual" dualcores (two socket motherboard
and two CPU's each being Dual Core)then you have to have Pro.

Hey, i was looking at a laptop which has Intel Centrino Duo, and comes with
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. Why would they provide the laptop with
Home Edition if it would not run effectively?

What exactly would the difference be?

Reread what Bob wrote below. It's exactly right. The Intel Centrino Duo is a
dual core processor. It counts as one CPU, and XP Home *can* run it just
fine.

It will run it effectively. While it does not support dual processors
(dual actual physical chips), it does fully support dual cores. MS
knows and recognized the difference between dual cores and dual
procssors (dual physical chips).
