Okay, i've tried this home or small office network setup wizard on both of my
computer running windows xp home edition. I can't understand why it wont
just work, and its drving me nuts. HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi Michael,

What are you trying to achieve ? If it's just sharing files, make sure that
both PC's are in the same workgroup (call it what you want, just make sure
it's the same on both PC's). Make sure thay have unique names. Make sure they
both have the same protocol installed (if you're using TCP/IP, then this is
installed by default - make sure the 2 PC's have different IP addresses). How
are the 2 PC's connected ? If it's via a router, then your router will supply
IP addresses to the 2 PC's (usually). If they are connected to a switch/hub
with no router, then you are going to need to manually supply different IP
addresses to the PC's. This is also true if they are connected via a
crossover cable. You will need to make sure that File & Printer Sharing is
turned on (and it is by default) and that you are actually sharing
folders/printers etc.. You could try installing NetBEUI Protocol as this is
perfect for small home networks and just simply works with no user input.
Hope this helps.

Regards Colin.

Hi Michael,

I agreed with Colin. If you could provide more details of what you trying
to achive and the steps you have taken to configure the home network,
including troubleshooting you have done so far...we can better help you fix
the problem.

I myself are working on my home network, unfortunately moving from workgroup
to 2003 Active Directory Domain, but my workgroup network was running
smoothly before that.

Colin.
I also have been trying to network my 2 XP home edition computers with no
success.
is it possible to network and share files, printers etc with xp home edition?
my main computer pings my 2nd one ok.
But the 2nd one does not see my main computer?
I have tried my lap top with the 2nd computer and they can see each other ok?
but the lap top can not ping the main one again.
I have tried using direct cable between the 2, and via a hub neither have
worked to date?
I have also tried using mannual ip's and automatic this 2 has not worked?
I want to share my broadband ( blueyonder) between the 2 and enable my kids
2 also share a printer.
Any advise please?

Thanks folks for the help, all very good advice. But I have found the problem
and it may help Colin as well...Add the IP address range you want to use to
the firewall software. SP2 is quite adament that the Windows Firewall be
running, manually configuring the firewall solved this problem instantly.
