During XP home install on Win2000 machine, the mesages are generated that
state files are missing from the CD. A search of the CD does not show them to
be present... a few are "bootvid.dll, kdcom.dll, and c_1252.nls". I've
aborted install becasue this just goes on and on.

Anybody have suggestions? Frustration is setting in, but I'll be patient for
this. Will be attemting tonight to "download updated setup files" which I
bypassed last night due to connection issue during setup.

thanks in advance --

Are you doing a clean install? I don't believe you can do an upgrade
from Win2k to XP Home (must be to XP Pro).

If you are doing a clean install and getting these error messages, since
errors during clean install are usually because of hardware:

1. Check the XP install cd for scratches. See if it works in another
machine.

2. Check the optical drive.

3. Check the hard drive.

4. Check the RAM.

A clean install (you are correct about upgrade, the machine was a refurb
business machine and came with 2000 preloaded). CD did appear to have
blemishes, but cleaning did not result in satisfactory results. Will try on
another machine tonight also (it has a separate clean drive, which I will
install to).

HD space and RAM is more than adequate. RAM is compatible.

I did attempt a clean install to a separate hard drive, with the same
results. I suspect the problem is with the cd itself, will post results
tomorrow.

Thx

Saying that the hard drive space and amount of RAM are adequate is not
the same as testing them for viability. After you check out the install
disk, if it is good then take the time to test your hardware per the
link I gave you.
