When viewing file and directories in windows explorer
the programs hangs for 5 to 20 secs at time (while it
tries to read the information i'm guessing)
note: the computer is networked to several other computers
but i have never had this problem with windows 98

suggestions would be welcome

thank you

I am not connected to a newwork but my computer does the same thing. I just
assumed it was a quirk in XP.

How much ram memory do you have. If you have the standard 128 megs, install more at least to 256 and even better 512. That should help your machine preform better.

Temporarily disable background AV checking to see if that helps. Some AV
apps can be configured too aggressively and can cause this problem,
especially if it's happening on most if not all directories.
