what software do I need to buy in order to get Microsoft
Outlook and Word?

Those programs are part of Microsoft Office.

They are either sold as a part of MS-Office Suite or can purchased
individually.

You will need to purchse 2 things.
1) Windows - Can be windows 98 or higher. If there is already a copy of
windows on your computer, there is no need for another.
2) An office package. Office XP or 2003 come with word and outlook or you
can purchase Works which only includes word. Alternativley you can purchase
word and outlook seperatly.

Office, of which they are components.
