Windows XP home edition nightmare

If you can try someone elses OS on it, this would prove to
you that either the OS or the hard drive is at fault.
Regards XP activation, I've had my XP automatically
reactivate itself because of the numerous changes put to
it. Activate Windows is an option in system tools.
 
Thank for everyoe's help. Yeah I'm thinking of putting my own copy of XP home on her machine just to see if it works. That should work right, unitl the 30 days for activation are up?

Also, I was wondering if there's any other way to check if the Windows disk she has is corrupted. Can scandisk or some other utility do that?

Nero can do it. Search on Google, there are plenty of free or trial
software that can test a CD for you.

By the way I think your problem is hardware: bad RAM, overheating,
failing or insufficient power supply would be the first three things I
would check.
