Windows XP Home Edition Hardware Change

The new Windows Varification patch that just came out is now telling me that
I have made a hardware change and that Windows needs to be reactivated. All
I did was put in a new Video Card, and I wasnt having any problems, until I
downloaded the new patch that just came out. So I have to waste one of my
reactivation keys? Doesnt Windows Xp only come with a certain amount of
times you can activate Windows, for things such as reformating? Is there any
way I can get a key without wasting my own reactivation key, which wasnt
cheap to come by. Thanks, Kenny

If you have a legal copy you can activate as many times as necessay granted
if you do it too often you might have to do so via phone instead of by
internet.

What do you mean by a new Windows "Varification" patch. There was a new
security update for the wmf exploit, but there is no "varification"
patch. You're also misunderstanding activation and the purpose of the
license key. You can reinstall XP as many times as you want using the
same key. If activation is needed it can be done automatically online
or if necessary by making a phone call. Hard for me to understand why
you would have extra "reactivation" keys - ne unique license (key) is
required for each computer - unless you have extra copies of XP lying
around.

I believe it was the Genuine Advantage Verification Tool update that started
my problems. I was under the impression that I could only use my
verification key only a certain amount of times. I used to reformat my hard
drive every so often because I have made hardware changes before; last time
it was a new motherboard and cpu, this time a video card. But I havent
reformated since then, because I tried to install windows too many times I
suppose, and it told me that the key had been used to many times, and the
service person I talked to on the phone told me I had to buy another windows
xp home edition cd, or purchase a new key code. Thanks for the info.
