I loaded xp update for windows 98 and my product key was
already used. so i had 30 days to register it so I
purchased a full version of windows xp. can I load it
over the updated windows xp ?

thanks bill

Bill, exactly what do you mean by you loaded XP update, what update. Do you
mean the XP upgrade? If so and you purchased the XP home or pro retail
upgrade version than take the full version back. There's no difference
except that the upgrade requires proof of a previous version, in your case
windows 98. If you entered the product key off the XP upgrade pkg than you
are good to go. The 30 days is for activation not registration. You are
required to go throught activation process but not the registration.

If it's truly a Full version, yes. But if it's actually an OEM
version (which many people confuse with the Full version), no.
OEM versions can only do clean installations.

The answer is to try it, if it doesn't work or the disk says
OEM, you either need to use Partition Magic to make a C: and
a D: partition. Then copy all your data files (My
Documents) on to D:. The use a W98 start-up disk and format
C:. The an OEM CD with XP OEM will install. You'll then
need to reinstall you applications and point the OS to D:
for My Documents.

TweakUI can help do that.
