Windows XP failing to recognize serial port hardware

Danny

I have a Gerber GXS 15 which is a cutter/plotter which
connects via serial port. I use Gerber Omega software
which is updated to run on all current versions of
Windows. The software recognizes the plotter in Windows
98 and Millenium. However, for stability I want to
upgrade to 2000 or Windows XP Professional. Using the
same PC, I have tried both unsuccessfully. The software
loads OK but does find the plotter. I have tested the
serial port by attaching another device which is
recognized by the operating system. Gerber has been very
helpful but the problem remains. The Plotter works fine
for others running Windows XP Professional. Any ideas?

Danny, this is Gerber's issue. Drivers are entirely the responsibility of
the hardware manufacturer. If they've updated their drivers for XP, it's
possible you have something else conflicting or the updated software needs
some tweaking by Gerber. Unless someone else on this board has this
hardware item and has dealt with the same issue, your chances of resolving
it here are quite remote as it is not specifically an XP issue.

You might try posting this on the hardware board but I'm dubious they'll be
much help. Go to the following link, scroll the list to hardware, select it
and post try posting your question there:
