Windows XP Explorer pane flickers

I am not on a network and everytime I go to windows
explorer, the folders pane of the left hand side
flickers. On the status bar it says that it is searching
for items. I need to make it stop flashing, can anyone
help?
 
I notice this once in a while slow network my guess however I think I did
see and improvement after adding this from Kelly's site

2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000
